Development
Canada currently and historically has played a large role in development activities in Ethiopia. Today, Canada annually sends over $100 million in aid to Ethiopia, and this amount is due to increase to about $180 million towards 2008.
The ECCL believes that Ethiopian-Canadians, as Canadians, have the responsibility to participate and contribute to development in Ethiopia, as private citizens, through various NGO’s such as those listed below, and as members of the Canadian community, by influencing Canadian aid policy towards Ethiopia. The Canadian government must be accountable to Canadians, including Ethiopian-Canadians, for the way it spends our aid dollars. The ECCL believes Ethiopian-Canadians should play a role in ensuring our aid dollars are spent effectively and efficiently in Ethiopia.
